When I was a kid my best mate made a bet with me that I wouldn't dress up as a girl and promise some desperate kid in 5d that I'd kiss him if he pledged his allegiance to West Ham.

I didn't go through with it (seriously ugly and the breath of the devil) but got me interested in the club at it went from there.

Born Hampstead, lived in Kentish Town then Wood Green. Moved South of the River, lived in Walworth, Elephant, Brixton, Streatham and finally Camberwell.

Got into football at 7/8 years of age - West Ham had an exciting team which beat Arsenal in the F.A Cup Final then smashed the second division a year later with a record points total. Plus almost beat Liverpool in the League Cup final.

At that time supporting Chelsea or Millwall wasn't an attractive option

Nothing's Changed

Not a proper West Ham fan I'm afraid WCO according to the cunts on here. Who despite living round the corner for years, or at least pretendingto, think they can sneer at fans who travel hundreds or miles to see their team each week who wanted to preserve our culture and soul.

They look like right mugs now the OS home end is filled with tourists, casual followers, away fans, sightseers mind.

That's why they've all gone quiet, they know. Idiots.

First club I'd ever really known (in England). By family geography I should support Man United or a Scottish side but West Ham it was.

Ah, the old WHO too trump fan thread.

Apparently if you didn't support the OS that meant you were from out of town, not proper West Ham, an outsider.

How did that turn out mugs?

NO-ONE can pull locale when it comes to supporting your team as some of the most implicit in fucking this great club up lived the closest.

We are all responsible for this mess.

I'm a Barking (East LONDON) so not technically East END... I'm West Ham as ALL my family was.... 1st game taken at 3 years old in 1970... and was a regular for over 40 years with the last 20 as a STH.... best time was early to mid 80's.... loved it... football has changed.... the West Ham that was moulded into a part of me is a long distant memory now... I'm just glad I got to see it all when it really meant something...

West Ham United kind of spoke to me what with Bonds, Brooking, Devo and Parks and Moore, Hurst the World Cup heritage. Might've got into a bit less trouble in SE3 but no regrets or anything.

Re: Anyone on here who doesn't come from the East End & why do you support West Ham
My paternal Granddad, despite being from North London, played for West Ham's youth side.

Later in life, he moved with his family to Forest Gate, so my Dad's from there. So, by geography and his Dad's connection to the club, my Dad had no choice, and he was never going to take to watch anyone else.

May have been a different story had my maternal Granddad not died when my Mum was 2, as he got to play for QPR reserves.

But it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good - his death might have blighted my Mum's life, but at least it destroyed any chance of me being a QPR supporter...

Was not given a choice as a kid ' all family West Ham and it was just what you did ...moved away now but my son had no option he had to support us ' if you are West Ham and your son supports another team you have failed as a father IMO

Born in and living in Hamburg, Germany. Came to Barking in 1996 for a job in shipping for 18 months. Felt homesick and therefore decided to attach myself to a local club during my time there and West Ham were the local choice as loads of my colleagues were Hammers.

The bug caught me hard and to this day they are my number one club. And it will remain so till the day I'm brown bread...

Born in Paddington but lived in Limehouse for five years till 7 years old. Went to UP 1974 Sheffield at home and lost but was hooked for some reason. Moved back to Paddington and surrounded by Chelsea arsenal and Liverpool followers. Was taken to Chelsea with my next door neighbour mate and his dad but wasn't interested. Live in Ireland now and my lad (first game Cardiff at home in championship and also lost) carries the same cross. We are definitely outnumbered here but just can't let it go. Get over 2 or 3 times a year but haven't been to OS yet. Streams are our saviour

One thing I'm learning from this thread is that the average age on this site must be pushing 70.

Interesting reading, especially with the south London chaps. I live amongst the south Londoners and although a strange breed, it's always nice to bump into fellow West Ham. I don't discriminate against fellow West Ham, but as an east London, our shithole is better than yours.

Re: Anyone on here who doesn't come from the East End & why do you support West Ham
Watched the 75 FA Cup Final on a small black and white TV back in Singapore as a 9 year old. Remmember my heroes then were Mervyn Day and Alan Taylor. Been West Ham ever since. Moved to the US in 1996.
Been fortunate enough to watch at Upton Park in 83,85,87 and 91. Even squeezed in an away game at Chelsea in 87.
I was also thrilled to visit the London stadium last November with my 3 teenage daughters but didnt get a match in as we were away so now even my daughters are West Ham! Was trying to explain to them what the club shop looked like then in late 80s with a small entrance and exit door compared to now! I regret not taking the time to go to Upton Park on the last visit even if just to look at the present state.COYI!
